Calling all superheroes to help us reopen our blue doors!

For nearly 20 years we have made an impact on the lives of children and their families allowing them to have access to quality care without financial burden. We understand how sudden it was that we had to close our doors leaving challenges for the caregivers that have relied on us. Our clubs have provided the opportunity for guardians to work or pursue education while knowing their children are being provided educational, social, and emotional well-being. We have supported the development of both children and families for two generations, creating a stronger community overall.

The board is committed to re-opening our blue doors in the Carbondale and Marion communities in the new year.

As the Board of Directors, we are taking proactive steps to ensure future issues are avoided and best practices are being maintained with successful programming and support from Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Policies and procedures are being reviewed in the areas of financial management, training, supervision of our workforce, safety, and other areas of operations to ensure that new leadership is consistently meeting operational and professional outcomes set by the board.

For us to reopen our blue doors, we need the support of the community.

Contributed support has decreased significantly over the last few years. In order to bring our programs back to the kids we have to get a true measure of support. At this time, we are asking our community members to take a look at your ability to support the clubs. Please spread the word and connect with like-minded individuals to help secure the funds to bring back The Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Illinois.

For nearly 20 years, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Illinois (BGCSI) has provided safe, inclusive, educational spaces, best-in-class programming, and supportive adult mentors to thousands of young people in our communities. Regrettably, we have been put in the position that we will no longer be able to operate and will have to close our doors. The Board of Directors made this unfortunate decision after much discussion and exploration of feasible options that would allow for continued operation of the organization. Therefore, BGCSI will cease operations effective Friday July 21, 2023. During this closure, our board plans to explore partnership opportunities within the community that will allow for reopening and securing long-term sustainability. We remain committed to our Club members, their families, and communities who have supported us for almost 20 years and recognize how much the children and their families need us. We want to provide hope and opportunity to the youth of Southern Illinois, just as we have to hundreds of children since we opened our doors in 2004. We hope that you share this vision and support us during this difficult time. For additional information, please contact Russell Williams, Board President-rwleadership@gmail.com or Cordy Love, Board Vice-President – cordy1906@gmail.com.

GREAT FUTURES ARE STILL POSSIBLE

Along with the rest of the world, we’ve been closely monitoring the evolving situation with COVID-19. These are confusing, anxiety-filled and uncertain times for all of us. It has brought uncertainty and disruption to the youth and families we serve. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Illinois’ top priority has not changed: the health and safety of the youth we serve and the important work continues, it just looks a little different during this time of uneasiness and uncertainty. We have stepped up to make sure that “those who need us most” continue to get services to feed the bodies, minds, and soul of Club members and families.
